Therapeutic Services for Children, Teens and Families

Childhood is fraught with challenges. Adolescents and "tweens" have their own unique problems as well; navigating family, academics and social life. If children and adolescents are supported during these crucial times they can build sturdiness and resiliency to face new developmental tasks ahead. However, sometimes they get stuck and may need extra help.

The aid from a mental health therapist can give a child and the family the added boost they need. I enlist the expertise of the parents and together develop a plan that identifies realistic and obtainable goals to help your child. Using counseling and art therapy, the child can express their own story thereby increasing self-esteem and confidence in their own problem solving skills.

Parenting, although rewarding, is demanding and emotional work. In addition to daily life stressors, such as balancing jobs and childcare, financial challenges and maintaining strong relationships with your spouse and/or friends, it is no wonder that parents can be left feeling overwhelmed and discouraged. Parents also need support and guidance on accessing their own inner wisdom.

I truly enjoy helping families learn effective ways to communicate and build support for each other.

Methods Utilized

Counseling: Counseling or psychotherapy allows the individual to verbalize thoughts and feelings with another person in a non-judgemental environment.

Art Therapy: Art Therapy can jumpstart the process if a person is stuck and offers the client another avenue of expression and exploration. For children and adults, art therapy provides a playful way to identify problems and a means to work through them.
